We pushed our May workshop forward a week! Please join Northern Colorado Women in Business at First Congregational Church, 2101 16th St. in Greeley on Wednesday, April 29th from 7:45-10 a.m. to celebrate being a woman with…

Rev. Tamara Torres McGovernwhen she shares her journey and wisdom that encompasses a wide variety of experiences that have guided her to her current destination as the Minister, Head of Programs at First Congregational Church in Greeley (where we are meeting).

Tamara was born in Venezuela and raised between U.S. and Spain. She found her way to ministry following a path which included spiritual formation as a yoga instructor, holistic cook, folk musician, and massage therapist. Her bi-cultural upbringing ignited in her a curiosity for understanding people across a diversity of social and cultural identities.

In her undergraduate years Tamara pursued a BA in Cultural Anthropology from Mount Holyoke College in MA. There she learned that objectivity is slippery at best—we bring our stories, culture and lived experiences to everything and everyone we encounter. When looking at divisive “black-and-white” issues, Tamara is less interested in who is right or wrong, and more interested in how we can cultivate the courage to explore the messy middle with curiosity and compassion.

In her late 20’s Tamara pursued a Master of Divinity degree from Union Theological Seminary at Columbia University in NYC. There her focus was on Voices from the Margins, listening for the perspectives that have for too long been overlooked or underrepresented.

Ordained in 2013, Tamara served congregations and emergent spiritual communities in Connecticut and Maine, before being called to Colorado in January of 2021 amidst the Covid pandemic. Since that time she has helped lead the church through a 1.2 million dollar capital campaign which reimagined church spaces as spaces that reflect the community’s values and vision. Alongside her co-minister, she has helped to grow the church across a diversity of demographics.

Tamara is trained as an Intentional Interim Minister, helping to guide communities through identity formation and transition. She is also a passionate Enneagram educator (2w3). Tamara imagines and works to build spiritual communities where people are welcome in all of their messy, passionate, embodied suffering and hopefulness. She believes in creating spaces where justice is held up not only as the right thing to do, but as a path to Divine encounter.

Via our NorCoWIB Summer Interest Surveys each June, July and August, it is apparent that many of us continue to search for the woman we want to become…often not knowing exactly where we are going to land.  We want to build satisfying successful careers, discover rewarding experiences, build happy families, and be confident that our needs are being met. This means self-care is happening in our lives.

Registration for this exciting and informative Workshop is $38 online for Members and $48 for Guests. Online registration closes on Monday, March 23rd at Midnight. We know how busy everyone is right now with all our Spring community activities in full swing, we don’t want you to miss this FABULOUS MORNING, so don’t delay – get Registered TODAY! Click on the Event Calendar and scroll to April 1st & click on that box. We scheduled this program early to give you plenty of time to determine how you want to get involved and support this historic community treasure!

During Tamara’s program you will be guided to consider and take away…

Do you ever ask yourself…am I the best version of the woman I want to be?   This program will stir-up all kinds of emotions including…

  1. Women’s power is intrinsically tied to our intuition— which is a body-based way of knowing.
  2. Women’s intuition has historically been feared and mistrusted, because it looks and functions differently than more masculine ways of knowing. To be successful in a male-dominated professional contexts, women have too often separated themselves from their knowing, adopting leadership strategies designed by and for men. While women have succeeded in using these adopted tools, it can be exhausting and depleting.
  3. When we disconnect from our intuition we separate ourselves from our life-force energy, our passion, and our creativity. Embodied leadership is a pathway to authenticity and transformation, not just individually but in community as well.

Let’s get to know our Speaker:  Tamara Torres McGovern

We’ve shared her journey above. I must say she is a great lunch date and if you are lucky enough to get on her calendar, the conversation shared will be memorable!  When Tamara is not working, she can be found baking (or engaging in power struggles) with her spunky kiddo, lifting weights at the Funplex or listening to inspiring podcasts with her spouse.
