It is comprised of four sites, each playing an important role in telling our shared story of where we as a community come from, why our past matters, and how it impacts our future as a society.
The museum system is currently engaged in a Capital Campaign to better help preserve, connect to, and interpret our shared agricultural history at Centennial Village Museum.
Centennial Village Museum is open May-September on Fridays and Saturdays in addition to various special events and provides visitors historical experiences from Northern Colorado’s past. Activities at the village range from hands-on school field trips to conversations with volunteer blacksmiths and other crafters to enjoying special events such as Baby Animal Days or Centennial Celebrations.
The Greeley History Museum is open year-round Thursday-Saturday and has a variety of rotating exhibits about a variety of historic topics. We will see this for ourselves on Wednesday morning.
Meeker Home Museum is open on select Saturdays throughout the year, when tour guides introduce visitors to the residence and life of Greeley’s founder, Nathan Meeker.
White-Plum Farm is open as a day-use park where visitors can experience the remaining three acres of a Centennial Farm now located in the middle of Greeley proper off 10th Street just before 43rd Avenue.
Currently the Museum is mid-quiet phase of a Capital Campaign to raise $750,000 to fund the construction of a building to tell the story of agriculture in N. Colorado which will also function as a community meeting and partnership space available for a variety of occasions. Staff members are seeking partnerships for fiscal, in-kind, and community involvement for this new project.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]
During this WORKshop you will learn about…
- Our shared agricultural past and present has never been more important, but we’re discovering the public’s connection to that vital part of our state’s commerce has become weaker.
- Centennial Village Museum, and what a perfect spot for a project to address that missing connection in our public today. Children and famillies love this location!
- This project will function both to address that specific agricultural need as well as serve as a greater space for the community of Greeley and Weld County to gather and grow, learn, thrive, and celebrate together
[/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=”Meet Geoffrey Havens” use_theme_fonts=”yes” el_class=”ev_head”][vc_column_text]Geoffrey Havens is the Curator of Historic Sites for the City of Greeley Museum system. In his role he oversees Centennial Village Museum, Meeker Home Museum, and White-Plum Farm Learning Center.
He’s a Missouri native who first visited Greeley in 2013 for a seasonal job with the United States Forest Service, got the Colorado bug, and was finally able to return for good in December of 2021. He’s worked in historic sites and museums for 11 years as a seasonal and then full-time historic educator and manager.
When not at work he’s probably with his wife Brianna volunteering with the Stampede Theater Troupe here in Greeley, or trying to work on a variety of fiber arts projects at home with help from their two cats; Rose and Oswald.
